General Information

Old Government House was the official residence of the Governors of Queensland from 1862-1909. Since that time the house has been occupied by the University of Queensland, the National Trust and the Queensland Institute of Technology.

Old Government House is owned by the Queensland Government, however in October 2002, a Heads of Agreement was signed between the Queensland Government, National Trust of Queensland and Queensland University of Technology for the future conservation, management and use of Old Government House.

QUT has accepted responsibility for the continued enhancement of OGH and the accompanying grounds in accordance with the Government's Conservation Plan.

QUT have opened the doors of Old Government House for the enjoyment of all Queenslanders and its visitors. Guided tours are also available on request. For more information please phone 3864 8005 or email to info.ogh@qut.edu.au

How to get to Old Government House

Old Government house is situated in the heart of the QUT Gardens Cultural Precinct at QUT's Gardens Point campus, just a short walk from the city centre, at the river end of George Street. (see map below)

You can travel to and from Gardens Point using bus, trains or taxis, river ferry or the CityCat. For all timetable information, phone Transinfo, 131 230 or visit www.transinfo.qld.gov.au.

There is a taxi drop-off point and parking for people with disabilities in Gardens Point Road, behind the Gardens Theatre building.

24-hour parking for 180 cars is available seven days a week in the Short Term Car Park under the freeway at QUT Gardens Point Campus, off Gardens Point Road. Simply purchase a ticket from the ticket machines located in the parking area, and display it on the dashboard of your vehicle. Please note that this car park fills up very quickly during the University teaching semester.

Alternatively, convenient parking is available at Kings Car Park in Margaret Street, or park at South Bank and enjoy a stroll over the Goodwill Bridge.
