Education program

The education program for Old Government House is designed to enhance classroom learning by integrating curriculum requirements with a visit to Old Government House.

The program provides free and accessible on-line pre-visit and post-visit teaching materials that are syllabus-aligned teaching resources.

To gain the most from your visit, teachers are encouraged to prepare students before they arrive by accessing our education module for year 7 primary students in Studies of Society and Environment (SOSE).

Old Government House was the home and office of the first 11 Governors of Queensland. It was the site of many important decisions that shaped the State of Queensland. It was also a microcosm of society in the late nineteenth and early twentieth centuries.

Using these elements, the teaching module is designed to be both educational and enjoyable. The module invites young people to share in the Old Government House story. It stimulates initiative and encourages creativity and cooperation.

Most importantly, the module is designed to promote interest and excitement in the study of Australian history.
