Celebrating the Lamington
What does a cake and a national park have in common? They were both named in honour of our eighth Governor and his wife, Lord and Lady Lamington. This year our celebration of the iconic chocolate and coconut covered treat coincides with the centenary of Lamington National Park; internationally recognised as one of Queensland's most iconic natural attractions and appreciated for its outstanding world heritage values.
To celebrate we are holding a lamington-themed morning of activities at Old Government House. Creative kids can enjoy the Craft Corner with a range of lamington-inspired activities or discover the story of the lamington and Lamington National Park in a display created by the Department of National Parks, Sport and Racing. There will also be some great prizes to be won on the day including a Family Day Pass to Lone Pine Kola Sanctuary.
For the big people, The Pantry café located in the House courtyard will offer free coffee to the first 50 parents and a special National Lamington Day coffee and lamington deal.
With a healthy supply of lamingtons you won't want to miss out!
