The Sound Of Art
Music and visual art unite for one memorable concert
Queensland Music Festival, Brisbane City Council, The William Robinson Gallery, QUT and the Margaret Olley Art Trust present The Sound Of Art at the William Robinson Gallery on Sunday 16 July. This intimate concert is a musical tribute to two of Australia's most accomplished artists, William Robinson AO and Margaret Olley AC (1923–2011) by world renowned composer, Elena Kats-Chernin.
Kats-Chernin will be in residence at the William Robinson Gallery to create improvisations inspired by the work of these two great Australian artists. The residency will conclude in a performance of these compositions by the Orava Quartet and special guest Katie Noonan as part of the Queensland Music Festival.
The Margaret Olley paintings that inspired Kats-Chernin’s improvisations will be displayed alongside William Robinson’s work in the newly launched exhibition, Eternal present: The still life paintings of William Robinson, at the William Robinson Gallery, Old Government House.
In the week leading up to the concert, Kats-Chernin will sketch and compose her improvisations as composer-in-residence at the William Robinson Gallery. Kats-Chernin will also be in conversation with Vanessa Van Ooyen, Senior Curator, William Robinson Gallery, to discuss her responses to the artworks and her creative processes over two days, at The Johnson on Wednesday 12 July and Old Government House on Friday 14 July.
The Sound Of Art is presented by Queensland Music Festival and Brisbane City Council.
