Two figures, emergent by Anna Jacobson
Dedicated to Queen Salome Alexandra
Slip between pools of knowledge -
both dreamer and visitation. Painted
in winter, my sensual bodies as fluid
as the ink I swirl from. Ready to save
a life I once hid my brother, reinstated
sages who survived. Born a generation
on from the miracle of light
I am a Hasmonean woman, bringer
of peace who reversed the decrees
of my husband. I reigned with justice
for nine-years - a golden age - preserving
my faith in olive brine like bottled heirlooms.
I am Salome and store trauma in my hips,
grief in my heart, love in my marrow.
