Entangled Others: Bella Deary Artist Talk

Past talk

Join Bella Deary for an artist talk as she introduces her first showcase of new work towards her PhD in Visual Arts, with the School of Creative Practice, Faculty of Creative industries, Education and Social Justice in the Old Government House cellar. Entangled Others aims to shed light on the rapid decline of vibrant coral communities occurring in Queensland’s Moreton Bay due to human impact. Through the study of these symbiotic relationships in nature, Deary asks if we can move towards living less human-centred lives.

Entangled Others is the result of a collaboration between visual artist Bella Deary and marine palaeoecologist Dr Gal Eyal, from the University of Queensland’s Sustainable Urban Seascapes of Moreton Bay research team, who monitor coral communities in Moreton Bay. The exhibition considers the crucial symbiotic relationship between coral and Zooxanthellae algae, recognising that the breakdown of this relationship results in coral bleaching.

The exhibition will be open to the public Thursday 24 and Friday 25 November 10-4pm and Sunday 27 November 10-2pm.
